Taormina
Taorminain the east of Sicily is one of the oldest in Italy. The icon of Taormina is the probably most beautiful antic theater, build in the 3rd Cent. BC by Hieron II. The 'Teatro Greco' is the second biggest theatre in Sicily after the one in Syracuse. Just outside the center, it is situated up on the plateau of Monte Tauro, surrounded by a fantastic landscape. It is assumed that the foundations of the Teatro Greco were laid under the Greek occupation of Sicily and later in the 2nd Cent. AD extended by the Romans. Although, experts are not sure if it is of Greek or Roman origin.
